I see you.

I see you.  Not your disabilities.  Not your diseases.  Not your shortcomings or bad habits.  Not your history.  Not your family.  Not your beauty or lack of it.  Not your size.  Not your hair do.  Not your job.  Not your tribe, or ethnic group, or social status.  Not your political party.  Not your education.  Not your mistakes or successes.  Not your fashion sense.  Not your house or your things or your car.  Not your mental ability.  Not your relationships or connections.  Not your money.

I see you.  I know that you have been hurt, like I have been hurt.  I know that you want to be loved like I want to be loved.  I know your need to belong is just like mine.  I know that you have been sad and lonely like I have been.  I know.

I see you.  I know that you are not your performance, whether you believe that or not.  I know that you are not what I have heard about you, positive or negative, whether you believe that or not.

I see you.  Not tomorrow.  Not yesterday.  Not when you get it all together.  Not when you have it figured out.  Not even way back when, when you thought you had it figured out, but in this moment.

I see you.  You are not my enemy.  You are not "one of them."  You are not a perfect person.  You are not a loser.  You are created in the image of God.  Your perfection lies in that.  Our oneness lies in that.  If you are hungry or thirsty, I am, too.  If you are lonely, I am, too.  If you are hated, I am, too.  If you are in prison, I am, too.  If you are loved, I am, too.

I see you.  Please see the person in front of you the same way.

So powerful! This was not written by you. I hear the voice of God in you so clearly. It pierces me.
    Thank you.

I suppose if God can speak through a donkey, he can also use me It is certainly a message that I believe must be heard around the globe. "I see you" is a greeting used in "Avatar" to acknowledge someone's worth. It was a good movie with a powerful message about not labeling people as impersonal groups...such as "vermin" and "roaches" as people so often do when they want to justify violence to assert their power. That, combined with thoughts from Jesus and the Dalai Lama were the inspiration for this one. Glad it inspired you.
